Toronto Riverdale Engagement

Here is one frame from the engagement session I shot Tuesday night in Toronto’s Riverdale neighbourhood. We started out at Riverdale Park and, judging by the dark skies overhead, I knew we only had a few minutes. When the skies did open up, the folks at the Rooster Coffee House on Broadview were kind enough to let us shoot in their shop and take shelter from the thundershowers. I was actually kind of excited that it rained. It gave me the chance try some new things and experiment a little. While playing around trying to get this shot through the cafe window, a streetcar happened to come by. I think it adds a certain “Toronto-ness” to this image.

Occasions by the Bay Wedding | Belleville | Tara & Barry

Mother Nature is a curious beast. The more weddings I shoot, the more I am beginning to truly understand and embrace this. Tara & Barry had set their wedding date for April 20th. Tara had hoped for an outdoor ceremony. When the day rolled around it was rather cold with a biting wind. The staff at Occasions by the Bay were fantastic. They even set up the chairs outside and would have made it happen. But when Tara & Barry did their First Look outside they were nearly blown away. Partly by how fabulous they looked, but mostly by large gusts of wind. For risk of a gale catching Tara’s dress, sailing her away never to be seen again, they opted to move things inside. Here are a few of my favourites from their day.

Tara & Barry, thank you so much for asking me to document your wedding day. You truly have some amazing people in your lives. Congratulations again! xo

Sarah Shafey | A Picnic in High Park

This post has been a long time coming. And by a long time, I mean about 3 years. Sarah and I took these pictures way back in June 2010. I had originally held off on blogging them because they were for promotion of her new album and I wanted to wait for it’s release. However, as sometimes happens, life got in the way and the release was pushed back. Ms Sarah Shafey is a very talented artist. I have had the pleasure of hearing her perform a handful of times and she is pretty rad. In fact, I would generally describe her as awesomesauce! And that is not a term that I just wildly toss around. But don’t take my word for it, check her out for yourself!

Anyways, Sarah’s new album is about to drop so I recently revisited these photos and thought now would be a great time to share a few of my favourites with you.

Ontario Farm Engagement | Just One Frame

Last night I met up with Darrelle & Rich at Darrelle’s family farm. It was so great to get out of the city and breathe in the fresh country air. Here is a little teaser of a silhouette I caught just before sunset. There is something about them in between these trees that I absolutely love.

Vancouver Beach Engagement | Just One Frame

I just got back last night from 10 days in Vancouver. My trip started off with the Canada Photo Convention where I learned from the best in the business. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones. My head is now bursting with ideas and I’m totally pumped for wedding season! It’s also great that Spring seems to have finally arrived in Toronto. Those of you who follow me on Instagram, may remember that I asked Toronto to have Spring ready for me when I returned. It seems as though my weather wish has come true! I wonder what I should wish for next?

Speaking of weather, Vancouver certainly did not disappoint. On Tuesday I met up with Jackie and Warren at their favourite spot near Kitsilano Beach. These two love the beach almost as much as they love each other! I can’t wait for their wedding this July in Tofino on, you guessed it, the beach!

Chiara & Chris | Toronto Waterfront Maternity Portraits

A few weeks ago I met up with Chiara and Chris at Toronto’s Harbourfront. I have known these two gorgeous people for years and I feel so lucky to have had the chance to document this very special time in their lives. Chiara and Chris are from Italy but have called Toronto home for the past few years. In June, Mike and I are traveling to Italy for a wedding I’m shooting. It just so happens that Chiara and the new baby will also be there. I’m so excited to meet some of her family and catch a glimpse of her beautiful country through her eyes. The local experience is always the best! Stay tuned for pictures from Italy. Also, if you are reading this and you are in Italy or going to be in Italy in June please drop me a line. We should make some pretty pictures together!

Tara & Barry | Veterans’ Point Gardens Ajax Engagement Photography

It was a beautiful sunny day down by the water in Ajax. The water was blue and there were puffy white clouds floating overhead. From my car it looked almost like summer, except for the obvious lack of foliage. I spotted Tara and Barry in the car next to mine and hopped out. I was nearly blown over by the wind. My warm summer thoughts were quickly quenched. This was my first visit to Veterans’ Point Gardens in Ajax. Grand sweeping views of the lake and even a miniature downtown Toronto off in the distance. It was really great to get to know these two. We discussed details of their upcoming wedding, we joked around, and Tara turned into a Popsicle. All in all, good times. Tara and Barry, I can’t wait for your wedding! It’s so close now!

Jonny, Juliana & Naomi | Day in the Life Preview

On Monday, I spent the day with my favourite yoga family. I have been practicing with Jonny and Juliana for years now and have also had the chance to photograph Jonny’s practice before. Early Monday morning, I let myself in and attempted to be the best fly on the wall I could as they went about their daily activities. These two are amazing. I have learned so much from them, both on and off the yoga mat. Watching them as partners and now as parents is truly inspiring. There are many more pictures to come but I just couldn’t wait to share a few teasers from our day together. They have worked out a pretty brilliant set up for their morning Ashtanga practice. Naomi was happy as a clam, grooving away to her favourite music bouncing in her jumper.

Shari & Zach | Toronto Winter Wedding Wear it Again

Since winter seems to be having one final hurrah here in Toronto I thought today would be a great day to share these. Shari and Zach got married back in October but with Hurricane Sandy hitting the same day there wasn’t a lot of opportunity for outside portraits. A month or so back they got suited up again, braved frostbite, and frolicked in the snow. Even though it was pretty cold, the warm glowing sun makes it look almost toasty. Here are a few of my favourites from our winter wonderland wedding wear it again!
